2:39 pm - Toddler Tips
|
Family Teaching Tips: Feeding Toddlers
* Serve small portions, and provide a second serving when the first has been eaten. One or 2 teaspoonfuls is an adequate serving for the toddler. Too much food on the dish may overwhelm the child. * There is no one food essential to health. Allow substitution for a disliked food. Food jags where toddlers prefer one food for days on end are common and not harmful. If the child refuses a particular food such as milk, use appropriate substitutes such as pudding, cheese, yogurt, and cottage cheese. Avoid a battle of wills at mealtime. * Toddlers like simply prepared foods served warm or cool, not hot or cold. * Provide a social atmosphere at mealtimes; allow the toddler to eat with others in the family. Toddlers learn by imitating the acceptance or rejection of foods by other family members. * Toddlers prefer foods that they can pick up with their fingers; however, they should be allowed to use a spoon or fork when they want to try. * Try to plan regular mealtimes with small nutritious snacks between meals. Do not attach too much importance to food by urging the child to choose what to eat. * Dawdling at mealtime is common with this age group and can be ignored unless it stretches to unreasonable lengths or becomes a play for power. Mealtime for the toddler should not exceed 20 minutes. Calmly remove food without comment. * Do not make desserts a reward for good eating habits. It gives unfair value to the dessert and makes vegetables or other foods seem less desirable. * Offer regularly planned nutritious snacks such as milk, crackers and peanut butter, cheese cubes, and pieces of fruit. Plan snacks midway between meals and at bedtime. * Remember that the total amount eaten each day is more important than the amount eaten at a specific meal.

My husband just said "Hey sweetie, you're going to have contractions eventually."
Sigh. Yeah. But not soon enough.

8:15 pm - 33 Weeks
|
I can't believe that I haven't posted in, oh, something like 28 weeks. I've just kind of let it all go by very, very, very slowly. And now here I am, 4 weeks away from full term and freaking out about not having anything ready.
Okay, so I do HAVE most of what I need, but none of it is set up yet. And I feel like the small things we need still are getting in the way. Lets see -
Dresser (so Ian can move his clothes off the changing table and I can organize it) Bins (for above mentioned organization) Bins for bookcase organization Leg Extenders for the co-sleeper Diaper Covers (3 or 4 more) KY Jelly (if this kid is anything like his father, we'll be taking his temp a lot) MB Soap Bits (I can't order these yet! They'll melt on my porch!) Onesie Extenders
I just ordered the second car seat, which is great but not here yet, and not installed yet. I can't install my seat until after baby, because there isn't room for it next to the two I've got now.
This is a very long complaint. Have I also mentioned I've got no idea HOW I'm going to organize the table/bookshelf to hold everything it needs to?? Blah. So I have a list of things I need, and a list of things I need to do -
~ stock up laundry supplies ~ print/post laundry instructions ~ pre-make meals ~ clean out freezer! ~ completely clean out car ~ vacuum EVERYTHING ~ switch sides, after attaching co-sleeper ~ attach co-sleeper! ~ organize closet ~ organize baby closet ~ clean guest room ~ organize/stock pantry
And now I'm tired just thinking about it. On the plus, have I mentioned so far it's been a really awesome pregnancy?

This is it... a brand spanking new journal. It's been forever since I started one. I almost didn't, but the name came to me while sitting at work and here we are.
It's friends only, obviously. A little bit of this, a little bit of that. Leave me a comment and I'll be sure to respond in kind.
